It’s safe to say the weather threw us a bit of a curveball this week. But we were determined to fit in a full schedule of races. And guess what? We did it!

We finished today with the Juniors’ and Senior Girls’ slalom, and the inter-schools Parallel Slalom.

Juniors’ and Senior Girls’ Slalom

Our Juniors and Senior Girls ended the week in style, clocking some unbelievable times!

The finalised results from across the week are now available here.

Inter-Schools Slalom Race

The Parallel Slalom was incredibly tense. Each school picked their top six racers to represent their school in a tense battle.

Congratulations to Cranleigh School who finished in first place, and to Albyn and Whitgift who finished second and third.

A special mention also goes out to the ‘All Stars’ (an elite squad of Halsbury staff) who, “did their best”, in the words of one rather unimpressed spectator. We think we’ll leave the stade to our racers next year!

Awards Ceremony

After the final races had finished, we reassembled in Smithy’s Tavern for a star-studded awards ceremony.

Our Chief of Race, Phil Brown read out the awards, whilst two represenatives from the Winter Sports Foundation gave out medals and Beth from MPI Brokers handed out trophies.

Each medal winner also returns home with a prize. These included Planks ski jackets, Helmet Heads helmet covers, beanies from Absolute Snow, Montezuma’s chocolate, and helmets, goggles and sunglasses from Ski Bartlett!

What’s more every participant left with a signed certificate, featuring exclusive discounts for some amazing snowsport brands including Trixski, Oosc and We Are Horizontal.

Disco

After one last dinner in Les Deux Alpes, our groups headed to the Belambra Hotel for a disco. We’d been impressed by our skiers’ skills on the slopes but their moves on the dance floor were even better!

Thank You

All in all, the first ever School Ski Championships organised by Halsbury Ski were a success.

A big part of that success is thanks to our schools. So, thank you Albyn, Ardingly, Benenden, Bradfield, Brambletye, Brentwood, Burgess Hill, Cranleigh, Davenies, Emanuel, Francis Holland, Guildford High, Kings College, Merchant Taylors, Queen Ethelburga’s, Reading Blue Coat, St Paul’s and Whitgift. Your competitors, teachers and parents all did you incredibly proud.

Thanks also to our individual skiers who were all outstanding, and many of whom won medals and trophies.

Same Again?

We don’t know about you but we’re ready to do it all over again! The provisional dates for the 2020 School Ski Champs are Friday 11th December until Thursday 17th December. We’re still waiting for a couple of schools to confirm but stay tuned, we’ll be in touch.

Lots of love,

Halsbury Ski & the School Ski Champs team
