The 2016 Independent Schools Ski and Snowboard Championships draws to a close

It’s official! The Independent Schools Ski and Snowboard Championships is over for another year and what an incredible event it was to both host and be a part of in its new five day format. We enjoyed amazing skiing conditions for December, with glorious blue sunshine for four out of the five days, and some amazing races. Unfortunately, due to high winds and poor visibility, we had to cancel the parallel slalom this year, but the event ended on a high with the prize-packed gala ceremony, thanks to event sponsors, MPI Brokers and Planks Clothing.

Congratulations to the joint winners of the 2016 event – Hurst College reclaimed their Giant Slalom crown, with Wycombe Abbey girls team beating the boys to the Senior Slalom team award, and the Guildford High Girls managed the same feat in the Junior category, whilst Whitgift took home the trophy for junior team boys in the GS.

Hurst College and Wycombe Abbey Girls School shared the Overall team prize, with the Charterhouse team coming not far behind!

Individually the competition was dominated by Oliver Baillie in the Senior boys division who won both Giant Slalom and Individual Slalom, and Madeleine Points who managed the same feat in the Girls Senior category. In the Juniors Max Fairfull from Charterhouse won the boys Giant Slalom, and Jim Mather from Kings Wimbledon won the individual slalom. Lydia McKimm of Wycombe was the fastest U13 racer, but as she was representing a Senior team the overall Junior Winner was Livi Hosking from Guildford high. Annabel Stock of Guildford High won the respective slalom event.

We’re so pleased that the event continues to grow every year and would like to say a big thank you to all 182 competitors, with special mentions to those schools which keep coming back, as well as to all those new faces. We know how much effort goes into organising a school trip and hope that everyone had fun both on and off the slopes. We hope that the champs continue to grow, and plan to keep it in the same spirit.
