ONLY 1 DAY TO GO UNTIL THE 2016 COMPETITION KICKS OFF

Now in it’s 11th consecutive season and running for five days for the first time in its history, the Independent Schools Ski and Snowboard Championships will be back with a bang tomorrow! With the competition now spanning three days, a larger junior division and parallel slalom race, this year’s event is set to be bigger than ever.

Held in the snowsure resort of Les Deux Alpes from the 14th – 20th December, the event will host over 180 racers from 14 of the countries leading independent schools.

The inspiring co-educational event is considered to be the only one of its kind with its open approach, and race camp package. The championships is run as a fully inclusive package, and starts with two days of training with French coaches allowing all competitors to find their rhythm and learn the basics before competing against each other in Slalom, Giant Slalom and Parallel Slalom. The event finishes with a prize giving ceremony and there are various night-time activities organised throughout the week to keep all participants busy and entertained.

“It’s great to see the champs becoming increasingly popular year-on-year, and we’re really proud to launch its brand new extended form! We hope both new and returning competitors will love the way it nurtures the spirits of the keen competitive racer and passionate holiday skier for five fantastic days of early season mountain fun. Even with its strong competitive edge, we are open to novice racers, and the two days of training prior to the event are a great opportunity for the less experienced racers to learn the basics, and see their hard work come off during the races themselves” said Event Director, Linley Lewis.

Hurstpierpoint return as defending champions, and will face stiff competition from Whitgift School, Guildford, Kings College Wimbledon, Caterham, Pipers Corner, Burgess Hill, Pocklington School, Charterhouse, Lancing, Bedes, Albyn School, Robert Gordon’s College and Wycombe Abbey Girls School.

The event is hosted by Basecamp Ski and Snowboard, and is thankful to a range of sponsors including MPI Brokers and Planks.

We look forward to meeting all the competing schools tomorrow in resort and good luck to all!
